CustomVue Monovision

For adults over the age of 40 who wish to be able to see both near and far without glasses, monovision may be an option. Monovision is a condition that the surgeon creates with LASIK by correcting one eye for distance and the other eye for near. The nearsighted eye allows an individual to read. With monovision, both eyes are never in focus together for any given object near or far. Only 30% of individuals are able to tolerate this optical difference between eyes. Therefore, it is important to have a trial period with contact lenses to ensure that this type of correction would work prior to being treated surgically.

How does CustomVue Monovision treatment differ from standard Monovision?

CustomVue monovision is an individualized treatment specific for each eye which removes optical aberrations that can degrade vision quality. Prior to the FDA approval of custom monovision in April 2008, monovision could only be achieved by a standard treatment which did not correct all of the eye’s optical imperfections.
